On Tuesday October 2, 2007, Craig and Attorney General Blumenthal announced
the first part of the settlement on the tire pond issue. After years of having
to live with this environmental nightmare, we can now look forward to a solution
that caps the tire pond, removes the owner from the property, allows parcels to
be resold and developed to add to our commercial tax base, and provides for
removal of the soil pile behind the new Middle School at the Town Center Park.
There was a major news conference with the State DEP regarding the Newhall
cleanup. A cleanup plan is at hand that will greatly improve the lives of
Newhall residents.
